Job Summary

The Salt Lake City Plant Manager is accountable for leading Contech’s largest Pre-Stressed Concrete manufacturing facility from forecasting and ordering raw materials through production, delivery, installation, and invoicing of the finished products.  This is done through maximizing utilization of the facilities, equipment, and personnel in order to achieve the highest level of plant efficiency at the lowest possible cost while maintaining industry-leading safety and quality performance . This position is under the general direction of the Regional Manufacturing Director.

 

The Plant Manager will carry out leadership responsibilities in accordance with Contech’s policies, values and strategies and ensure that everyone is treated with dignity and respect, providing an environment for success. This position is responsible for clearly communicating expectations and accountabilities for performance by helping employees see the link between individual performance and the department/company’s achievement of its strategic plan.  Recognizes and rewards good performance and gives continuous feedback.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leads and is responsible for 75 – 125 office and production employees. Develops and maintains an effective, unified, and loyal organization.  Provides leadership and direction to all employees.  Selects, develops and appraises personnel to assure a technically competent and highly motivated organization.  Maintains positive employee relations utilizing high EQ to communicate and administer organizational policies and procedures.  
  • Serves as the primary Human Resources contact for the facility and provides daily direction to staff functions, including production scheduling, inventory, order processing and transportation.  Supervises one or more of the following:  Department Leaders, Production Managers/Planners, Plant Clerks, Project Managers, Accounting Staff, and Installation Teams.  Directs activities pertaining to all business operations for the facility.
  • Continuously develops/maintains a thorough knowledge of all manufacturing processes and production equipment.  Maintains a thorough up‑to‑date knowledge of specifications required by customers and government agencies.  Maintains up‑to‑date knowledge of Interstate Commerce Commission and Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Resolves major problems with scheduling changes, equipment utilization, and personnel requirements.
  • Coordinates directly with internal and external Customers, including Customer Solutions and Sales personnel regarding orders, routings, specifications, pricing, and shipping.  Coordinates directly with Product Managers, Engineering, CAD, and Quality personnel to develop strategies to ensure the supply of high-quality products that meet the profitability goals developed for each product line.
  • Develops and maintains high plant standards for safety and working conditions to provide maximum protection for the employees and equipment.  Provides sustained leadership to all employees in administering an effective Accident Prevention Fundamentals Program. Enforces the Personal Protective Equipment requirement for anyone entering the property. Educates all employees on Contech safety procedures through the administration of daily, weekly, and monthly safety meetings, safety postings, safety audits and on-line training.
  • Ensures that any Hazardous Waste permits, Stormwater permits, Storm Water testing and Storm Water Pollution Protection Plans are developed and maintained as per state and local agencies.
  • Ensures that all products manufactured or distributed are of the highest quality, meet the applicable specifications and that all quality procedures are followed and recorded in accordance with our policy.
  • Maintains a high level of internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Has the ability to analyze and evaluate monthly metrics regarding Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost & Inventory and to develop and initiate corrective actions to course-correct results to meet targeted goals.
  • Responsible for P&L evaluation and control, costing accuracy and critical feedback for incoming project profitability.
  • Responsible for developing monthly sales forecast estimates and helping to prepare annual sales forecasts.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining capital expenditure plans and forecasts.
  • Guides teams in maintaining proper inventory levels to support the local market. Works with corporate inventory analysts to adjust as necessary. Identifies OSMI items and develops and initiates corrective actions to meet company goals regarding overall inventory targets.
  • Supports other plant locations and takes on other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Education

Required minimum education:    4 Year / Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Major/Focus:   Business or Related Major 

  • Combination of post-secondary education and experience will be considered in lieu of degree.

 

Licensure/Certifications

Preferred:   Project Management

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years in a supervisory and/or leadership capacity
  • Computer proficient including Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint & Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Operating Systems
  • Broad knowledge of business functions, including Safety, Quality, Production Operations, Accounting, Inventory Management, Cost Control/ Profit & Loss Management and Shipping
  • Exceptional continuous improvement/problem solving skills and demonstrated results-oriented history
  • Broad technical knowledge of manufactured products and production methods
  • Able to lead and direct teams to promote cohesiveness and operational effectiveness (High EQ)

 

Preferred:

  • 10+ years leadership experience in a technical or supervisory capacity
  • Experience working in the Pre-stressed or Pre-cast Concrete Products industry
  • Experience in working with unionized workforce and policies/procedures
  • Experience with JD Edwards ERP or Oracle based systems
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel to include pivot creation and utilization of analytical tools.
