Lab Technician - Stormwater Product Development

Job Summary

The Lab Technician will support the New Product Development team using sampling, testing and measuring techniques; performing quantitative and qualitative analyses to determine laboratory performance of prototype and established stormwater treatment products. The Lab Technician carries out experiments related to new product development and regulatory compliance. Researches and understands regulatory requirements in relation to existing and future stormwater products. Assists with facilities management.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the lab Team Lead, perform laboratory experiments, including data collection, data analysis and reporting of activities.
  • Assist with experimental design including standard operating procedure development. Assist with the design, specification, procurement and construction/assembly of equipment and experimental apparatuses.
  • Follow standard operating procedures, standard methods and established protocols for performing experiments and related reporting.
  • Collect, interpret and report data in a structured, well documented, scientific manner.
  • Work cross-functionally with other teams to provide data and reports that result in high-quality product approvals and informed product designs.
  • Maintain and calibrate lab equipment as required. Maintain inventory.
  • Ensure lab safety is in compliance with the company’s policies. Maintain a neat and orderly laboratory environment.
  • Assist and train other lab personnel as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education

Required minimum education:    2 Year / Associate Degree

Preferred Education:    4 Year / Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Major/Focus:   Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering/Engineering Tech or Related Field

  • Combination of post-secondary education and experience will be considered in lieu of degree.





  • Associate of Science degree or certificate.  A combination of post-secondary education and 2-5 years of laboratory experience will be considered in lieu of degree or certificate.
  • Proven ability to review, analyze and present data in an organized manner.
  • Demonstrated understanding of sample collection methods and sample handling techniques.
  • Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with team members.
  • Experience with recording, tabulating and organizing laboratory data and measurements.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Proven ability to construct/develop laboratory apparatus from basic ideas.
  • Good mechanical aptitude with ability to use analytical equipment.


  • Bachelor of Science.
  • Construction tool skills.
  • Technical training and/or experience in plumbing/pumps, hydraulics, controls, water treatment and sampling.
  • Related training/experience in construction practices, electrical and electronics.
