3D CAD Steel Detailer

Ft. Payne, AL

The 3D CAD Steel Detailer is responsible for providing design and drafting services utilizing Tekla model-based construction software to support the engineering, production, and sales staff.  Additionally, the position plans and creates models for new or modified bridge systems which utilize information from site plans and engineering specifications to develop Proposal, Contract, and Fabrication drawings utilizing custom computer programs.

Primary Responsibilities

• Work with custom programs to create detailed drawings, and when necessary, bills of material to be used in the manufacture and installation of our products.
• Review design information, site plans, and manuals to determine critical dimensions of design.
• Utilize applications such as Tekla, AutoCAD, and Excel daily to complete drawings to meet project deadlines.
• Confer with design staff to determine design requirements, modifications, and issues.
• Efficiently produce accurate drawings for review and approval by design staff.
• Prioritize assigned projects based on date due.
• Submit and review drawings with peers as needed, before design staff review.
• Develop and maintain standard and custom details for all product families.
• Interface between Commercial Operations, fabrication plant managers, customer service representatives and structural engineers when necessary.
• May visit manufacturing facility or product installation sites.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.

Minimum Education

Required minimum education:    2 Year / Associate Degree

Required Major/Focus: Civil Engineering, Architectural Experience or Construction. Auto CAD.

Qualifications

Required:

• Strong technical skills including a background in AutoCAD or related 3D drafting software.
• Experience with Microsoft Office particularly Excel.
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Demonstrate attention to detail in conditions that may pose frequent changes, delays, and/or unexpected events.
• Ability to read and interpret documents, technical manuals, and engineering concepts.
• Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the engineering field.
• Ability to accurately read and interpret site plans
• Ability to maneuver through manufacturing facility or job site in a safe and workmanlike fashion. 

Preferred:

• Working knowledge of Tekla model-based construction software for structural engineering and construction.
• Experience in the Steel Industry.
