Director of Manufacturing Engineering

Job Summary

The Director of Manufacturing Engineering will be responsible for coordinating the efforts of the Manufacturing Engineering (M.E.) Team to support the strategies and achieve the goals of the Operations Team.  The Director will lead the M.E. team in facilitating and implementing new process technology, standardization, new product introduction, process installations and continuous improvement at all manufacturing facilities.  The Director will also provide guidance and support to the M.E. team members as they provide assistance to the manufacturing business segment to address and solve technical and process related issues along with managing assigned projects that include planning, coordinating, controlling and follow-up activities to achieve Operational Excellence.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide support to the M.E. Team to ensure the proper focus on technical and process related problems across all facilities while fostering opportunities for continuous development of direct reports.    
• Manage the M.E. Team as required to provide the proper support for the projects that have been identified by the Directors and Regional Operations Managers in each region.
• Support the development, justification and implementation of capital projects.
• Facilitate technology advancements that include new product / process introduction and manufacturing improvements to reduce waste.
• Facilitate “Lean Thinking Culture” to include process standardization, setup reduction, flow layout that results in lower operating cost.
• Promote established safety initiatives and assist in the development of methods and practices that are focused on improving safety.
• Promote an environment that is focused on Root Cause Analysis.
• Other duties assigned

Minimum Education

• Required minimum education:    2 Year / Associate Degree
• Required Major/Focus:  Mechanical Engineering or Related Engineering Major
• Preferred Education:    4 Year / Bachelor's Degree
• Preferred Major/Focus:   Mechanical Engineering or Related Engineering Major

Combination of post-secondary education and experience will be considered in lieu of degree.

Qualifications

Required:

• 5 years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer / Engineering Manager.
• Must have excellent mechanical aptitude.
• Project management experience in planning, coordinating, execution and follow-up is critical to position success. Necessary skill sets include the following:
  • Excellent time management skill & ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and writing communication skills.
  • Data driven approach to root cause problem solving approach in identifying improvement opportunities and determining best method to implement long term solutions.
  • Flow layout and cycle time analysis skills.
  • Process mapping skills.
  • Process variation analysis skills
• Extensive travel involved. (60-65% of the time)
• Must be a self-starter and able to execute job task with limited supervision.
• Must be Detail oriented.
• Computer skills proficiency (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
