Job Summary

 

The  Design Engineer works in a high level consultative role and provides technical support to other department engineers, sales personnel, consulting engineers, contractors, and customers in conjunction with the promotion, installation, and evaluation of Contech’s Hard Armor Armortec Solutions. Develops engineering solutions for specific projects involving hydraulic design, water quality, geotechnical and structural issues related to Contech’s products. Works closely with and maintains effective working relationships with individuals within the Engineering, Marketing / Sales and Operations Teams to meet common goals and commercial objectives of the company. Provides input, review, and training to various members of the Engineering Dept. and CAD Team in the preparation of engineering and drawing submittals for customers. Adheres to company policies and is actively involved in risk management efforts. Writes or assists in the writing of technical articles, papers, etc. in the support of company’s products. Serves on technical committees and is active in industry associations.  Assists in testing and development of new products and portfolio expansion.

Primary Responsibilities

 

  • Provides project specific design services – including review of project plans, developing product solutions, preparation of submittal drawings and calculations, providing technical advice – to assist the field sales team with integration and acceptance of Contech’s products into site plans.
  • Maintains a strong working knowledge of Armortec products; including production facilities, capabilities and limitations; margins and quality standards.  Is market centric and possesses broad knowledge of the construction industry, key markets and clients. 
  • Primarily focuses on Contech’s  hard armor product line and possesses the skills, knowledge and experience needed to develop business for these product offerings.
  • Performs hydraulic, structural and / or geotechnical analysis and review as necessary to support product development on projects.
  • Works effectively in a leadership role with in-house engineers and CAD Techs, Sales / Marketing Team members as well as with outside engineers in the promotion, specification and installation of Contech’s base products.
  • Provides technical support to the Operations / Manufacturing Team as required for the proper fabrication of Armortec products.
  • Communicates and coordinates efforts with field sales staff and the manufacturing team regarding any questions and concerns involving plant orders and the proper design, manufacture, and installation of Contech’s products.
  • Handles calls from the field sales / marketing team, outside consultants and plant personnel and provides competent technical advice and input.
  • Maintains engineering standards, policies, best practices and procedures.
  • Supports the promotional and strategic efforts of the organization.
  • Develops or supervises the development of technical design tools related to promotion and design of Contech’s products.
  • Writes and develops technical papers and product literature needed for the support and the promotion of Contech’s products.
  • May travel to job sites to provide technical support, consultation and evaluation related to Contech’s products.
  • Maintains professional relationships and attends industry trade shows, seminars, and continuing education courses as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Requirements

 

*  4 year/Bachelors degree  Specialty/major: Civil Engineering

*  Graduate degree (ie: Masters)  Specialty/Major: emphasis on hydraulic, geotechnical, or structural background

*  1 to 3 years of experience in the area of civil site projects with emphasis on culverts, short span bridges, storm sewers, retaining walls and / or tunnel projects.

*  Experience with Engineering Design, Project Management software, and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software.

*  Proven experience reading, analyzing, and understanding common engineering plans and specifications.

*  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
