Contech's Parent Company, The QUIKRETE Companies has an exciting Corporate Transportation Director opportunity at the corporate office in Atlanta located near Perimeter Center.  


The QUIKRETE® Companies, the leading producer of packaged concrete and related products, is seeking a Corporate Transportation Director to implement transportation strategies that result in best-in-class customer service and safety, while minimizing total transportation spend.  The primary focus of this position is geared toward the management of QUIKRETE's company fleet.  This position reports to the Vice President of Transportation.  The selected candidate will have both direct and indirect reports, including a Driver Recruiting Coordinator, Transportation Saety Manager, and several Regional Transportation Managers that are strategically located across the country.




  • Improve the safe operation of the company truck fleet as measured by FMCSA and company metrics.

  • Develop and implement driver recruiting and retention strategies to ensure appropriate driver staffing levels are maintained.

  • Ensure fleet is optimally sized to provide outstanding customer service while minimizing the investment in transportation.

  • Work with corporate transportation, RTM’s, and operations management to establish metrics and monitor performance of transportation against established baselines.

  • Collaborate with individuals at all levels of the company to identify ways to continuously improve all aspects of transportation operations.

  • Utilize data from various sources to ensure that shipments are dispatched via the best method to meet or exceed customer expectations at the lowest possible cost to QUIKRETE.

  • Ensures compliance to company policies and FMCSA regulations.

  • Perform accident investigations and ensure that all documentation and video evidence is maintained as required by FMCSA and company policy.

  • Oversees IFTA, IRP, UCR, and other programs related to the registration of the company’s tractors and trailers.

  • Works with corporate transportation, RTM’s, and operations management to ensure that plants are appropriately staffed with drivers and equipped with tractors and trailers to maximize company fleet utilization.

  • Develops training programs for RTM’s, dispatchers, truck drivers, and other personnel involved in the transportation of the company’s products.

  • Work with various equipment, fuel, maintenance, and compliance vendors to ensure contracts and pricing are adhered to.

  • Perform traffic lane analysis and cost justification studies associated with the capital budgeting process.

  • Periodically travel to plants, vendors, etc. in furtherance of company business.

  • All other duties assigned.


Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Logistics, or related field.

  • Minimum 10 years of trucking operations management experience in a private, or for-hire setting.

  • Possess a safety first mindset that drives all decision making.

  • Expert knowledge of FMCSA regulations and their application to trucking operations.  This includes FMCSA required filings, truck driver hours-of-service, driver qualifications, and vehicle maintenance.

  • Possess a solid understanding of trucking related activities including driver management, fleet optimization & efficiency, maintenance, dispatching and cost control.

  • Understanding of trucking costs and the impact that effective equipment utilization can have on these costs.

  • Solid computer skills with high level competence in the use of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize various transportation technologies such as Transportation Management Systems; GPS; and Electronic Logging.

  • Experience in the use of tractor on-board camera technology.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with individuals at all operational levels.

  • Ability to track progress toward established goals for the trucking operations and generate reports that are concise, easily understood, and communicated to appropriate levels of the organization.

  • Understand the impact of transportation on customer service.

  • Experience analyzing data and making recommendations related to the purchase of equipment.

  • Ability to create and maintain transportation SOP’s and training materials.

  • Experience with driver recruiting and on-boarding.

  • Working knowledge of IFTA, IRP, and UCR.
