QUIKRETE, parent company of Contech Engineered Solutions, is seeking a full time Commodity Manager at our corporate headquarters in Atlanta, GA.  The position will involve department support activities to assist in the purchasing of raw materials and packaging for QUIKRETE’s manufacturing operations. The selected candidate will be assigned specific purchasing category management responsibilities to be performed in a timely manner, in accordance with company policy.  He or she will work closely with our procurement staff and other office personnel. Teamwork with company managers and peers is a must.  

 

The Purchasing Department provides cost effective strategies to maintain low cost, yet high quality materials for all plant operations.   The Commodity Manager will assist with developing, implementing, coordinating and maintaining these strategies for our vendors and producing facilities.  The position requires a high degree of organizational abilities and communication skills.

JOB SUMMARY

Under general direction, manages and procures specialized commodities of a complex nature requiring experience in purchasing, contracting and purchasing policy and procedure. Negotiates for the purchase of supplies, services and materials to support all divisions of QUIKRETE Engineered Solutions.  Perform the sourcing function regarding products, services and processes while developing, implementing and managing supplier contracts.  Performs administrative activities in support of the purchasing function; and completes related work as required.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with QUIKRETE’s policies, values and strategies. Ensures that everyone is treated with dignity and respect providing an environment for success.  Clearly communicates expectations and accountabilities for performance helping employees see the link between individual performance and department/company achievement of its strategic plan.  Recognizes and rewards good performance and gives regular feedback.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determines commodity product requirements.
  • Determines methods of acquisition; prepares specifications and issuance of purchase orders.
  • Selects vendors and requests written bids/telephone quotes on purchases within delegated authority.
  • Reviews, evaluates and recommends bid award to management.
  • Advises users about product, service availability and specification preparation.
  • Resolves vendor-user conflicts; obtains and issues emergency purchase authorizations
  • Conducts research to identify products for potential department use.
  • Meets with vendors to receive product and service information; performs value analysis; analyzes quality, price, source of supply, delivery date, shipping charges and product cost.
  • Implements changes to improve work flow.
  • Prepares correspondence and insures effective public relations with vendors, users, and purchasing personnel.
  • Ensures use of proper record keeping methods and procedures.
  • Visits departments to become acquainted with their specific needs; notifies departments of new products and arranges for samples for trial.
  • Investigates sensitive or unusual issues or complaints regarding vendors/products; provides guidance and assistance to vendors regarding performace issues.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and interprets production plans as pertinent to procurement; takes action accordingly
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION

4-year Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain or related field

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years strategic commodity management experience
  • Experience performing detailed review of purchase orders and requisitions to insure conformance with policies & procedures.
  • Experience preparing and evaluating specifications for products and services.
  • Experience applying value analysis criteria to products and materials to include weighted-value methods.
  • Experience interpreting and applying public/governmental purchasing procedures.
  • Knowledge of theory and practices of purchasing, including ethics, standards, bid preparation and evalution, competitive bidding procedures, qualify control, data collection techniques for establishing sources of supply, product, and vendor information.
  • Knowledge of market research techniques, general law of contracts, statistical analysis, accounting and budgetary controls, office procedures, use of office automation to assist in the purchasing function, general computer applications used in business, such as spreadsheet, data base, and word processing software.
  • Ability to conduct studies, evaluate data, and make recommendations and decisions; prepare and present written or oral reports; act as Purchasing Agent as assigned; perform arithmetic calculations; use common units of measure; calculate interest, discounts, and shipping charges. 
  • Provide staff training in the use of computer applications for purchasing; recognize responsibility and limits of assigned authority; maintain an effective liaison with vendors, management personnel, and co-workers.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
